1: Zara is hastily browsing book shelves with her phone light. Lea leans in close.
Lea: He’ll catch us! Maybe we should get out.
Zara: We won’t get another chance at this!
2: They’re lead to a little side room, a stone arch leading into deeper storage.
Zara: Here, it must-
Tullus: That’s far enough.
3: The girls flinch and turn around.
4: Tullus is there, having crept up without his cane. He’s leaning with one arm on the railing, and the other holds a small, discrete pistol at his side, pointed at the girls (and the viewer).
… So… odds on kicking him over the railing before you get shot?
… odds of whatever is in that casket that HAPPENS TO BE RIGHT AT THEIR LEVEL NOW grabbing him … ?
Or maybe whoever/whatever is in the coffin suddenly speaks, commanding him to let them go.
Nah, I like your idea better.
Third possible way to get out of this tricky situation: Julia takes advantage of the knowledge she gained in issue #20: she and every other anthro earthling are pieces of an eldritch being; at the climax of that issue, she was able to regenerate her body after it had been consumed by the Idol-monster. Perhaps she can recover from bullet wounds, too.
Correction: it was in issue #19 that we learned that fact.
