1: Melissa’s pained, crying face as black mass pushes into her skin.
Krizman: Rejoin with us and there will be no pain, no loneliness…
2: She lowers her head, tearful and shuddering in pain.
Krizman: Keep resisting and you will suffer… and you will die.
3: Melissa bares her teeth and hisses in response.
Mel: NO!
4: Idowu has gotten to here feet and is stumbling towards Melissa, spear raised in her only good arm.
Idowu: Mel!
5: She lunges towards Mel and swipes the spear into some of the tendrils holding onto her arms, which quickly succumb to gray rot.
6: Krizman looks on in anger and disgust.
7: With the spear plunged into the mass that had been holding Melissa up, Idowu collapses back with an arm around the falling Melissa.
What a shame. Split personalities refusing to become back together.
Mama Squid, “Doctor, my son needs help.”
*Delusional Squid playing with his furry finger puppets on his tentacles* “You, you’ll never assimilate me!”
Well, how would you feel you were told you were just a split personality, but then the original personality demands that you merge with it—even though you have your own desires, dreams, and identity, which would likely be lost when reuniting with the original? In this case, “coming back together” heavily implies the death of one (or even both) identities/personalities.
Come to think of it the “split personalities” seem to have more “personality” than the original. Not once has the Black Idol tried to tell its side of the story; all it’s done is try to assimilate people, or drive them mad if they’re out of its physical reach.
– Tired god wouldn’t bother, it’s above mere mortals;
– the mortals would CHOOSE to shut their senses down and CHOOSE to not understand;
– the only way to make them fully empathize IS to take them back ((not unlike how humans would just want priviledged oppressors to feel exactly all the pain they’re causing so they can finally have the sense to empathize))
*remembers Rhoda-Tazim exists*
What about the situation hints that she/he/they will get involved?
No I’m remembering them for no reason
Having looked at issue 27 reminded me the deal they made with Tazim to get the crystal: the latter needed the the Black Dog out of the way so that he could reclaim some he claims that the Smiling Man took from him. Given the reveal on the next page, perhaps Tazim made his move, forcing The Smiling Man recall the Black Dog; perfect timing. Luckily, there is still a rather angry black wolf…
Minor correction/addition to previous comment: …looked *back* at…
Another correction: reclaim some*thing*
