1: Dishes sit filthy in a sink, covered in mold, unwashed for weeks. The whole house is dark.
2: A pile of letters lays strewn on the floor, pushed in through the mail slot.
3: A crayon drawing, stuck to the fridge, shows the crude form of horses running across a field of bright teal grass.
4: The door clicks and begins to slide open.
5: The deer opens the front door, but does not step inside just yet. Between him and his house are the yellow bars of police tape which stretch across the open threshold.

Why in the world are they delivering mail to a house with a sealed door?
The Evil Door™ that can swing OUTWARD without disturbing the police tape there was adamant that they’d BETTER continue fulfilling their duty. 😉
It’s a sliding door. It gets pushed into the walls when opened.
The mail must go through.
The house could be burned out but if there’s a place to put the mail, it will be delivered.
