1: Melissa starts to cry again.
Melissa: I don’t know what else to do. She’s sick and she’s gone, and… and…
Rhoda (off-panel): Mel…
2: Rhoda, gets up and is approaching Melissa.
Rhoda: Come on… come here, get up.
3: Melissa has stood up to lean on her, crying into her, arms around her tightly.
4: The pair embrace, Melissa crying harder.
Rhoda: I’ll see what I can do. We’ll figure this out. Okay? Julia will be fine.
Melissa: Hff… uh huh…
5: Melissa leans back and wipes her eyes.
Melissa: Guh… I’m sorry, sorry…
Rhoda (off-panel): It’s okay, you’re good, let it out…
Melissa: No, no, I’m good, I…
Thanks…
6: They stand a little awkwardly around the table, Melissa looks embarrassed.
Rhoda: When’s the last time you ate?
Melissa: You don’t have to… Ugh…
Okay… it’s been a while.
Rhoda: Let’s get out of here for a bit, take our mind off this, okay?
Melissa: Alright…
Oh there she goes…. I wonder how long it would take for Mel to lose it…
Actually, crying tends to be the turning point: The first step in the healing process.
This.
Plus, while not directly acknowledging the weird stuff going on, Rhoda did say she’d see what she could do. I think helped give Mel some much needed solidarity.
